Plagiarism Policy

Scope of the check

Every manuscript received by Guarracuco Sostenible undergoes a similarity check before it is sent for peer review. The check is carried out with Copyleaks and covers both matches with published sources and signs of automatically generated text.

Criteria

The similarity report is interpreted qualitatively. A high percentage due to bibliographic references, names of regulations or properly attributed quotations is acceptable. A short unattributed match on a substantive passage, by contrast, is an irregularity.

The journal applies a similarity threshold of forty per cent, calculated excluding the bibliography and properly attributed quotations. How the manuscript is handled depends on the result of the report.

  • Up to forty per cent. The manuscript continues on its normal path to peer review.
  • Between forty and sixty per cent. The manuscript is returned to the author with a request to rewrite the matching passages. The check is repeated on the revised version, and the process continues once the percentage falls below the threshold.
  • Above sixty per cent. The manuscript is rejected immediately, without external review.

Misconduct

  • Plagiarism. Reproducing other people's text, data, figures or ideas without attribution.
  • Self-plagiarism. Substantial reuse of one's own published text without declaring or citing it.
  • Redundant publication. Submitting work whose content essentially matches another published or under-review work.
  • Fabrication or falsification. Inventing or manipulating data, results or images.

Consequences

A manuscript in which any of these forms of misconduct is established is rejected immediately. When misconduct is detected after publication, the journal retracts the article in accordance with its editorial ethics policy. The editorial team may inform the authors' institution. The journal does not set periods during which the authors involved are barred from submitting.

Authors' responsibility

Submitting a manuscript implies the authors' declaration that it is original and that all sources used are properly attributed.
