Privacy Statement

Data controller

The Corporación Universitaria del Meta - UNIMETA, located at Carrera 33 n.° 34-06, San Fernando campus, Villavicencio, Meta, Colombia, telephone 6621825, is the controller of the personal data collected through this journal. Processing is governed by Statutory Law 1581 of 2012, Decree 1377 of 2013 and UNIMETA's Personal Data Use and Protection Policy (in Spanish), which this statement supplements for editorial purposes.

Data collected

When users register and take part in the editorial process, the journal collects their first and last names, email address, institutional affiliation, country, ORCID iD, username and preferred language and, when the data subject chooses to provide them, a biographical statement, telephone number and postal address. The platform also records usage data, such as access dates and the editorial activity associated with each submission.

Purposes

  • To manage the editorial process through submission, peer review, editing, production and publication.
  • To communicate with authors, reviewers, editors and readers about submissions and the journal.
  • To publish accepted articles together with the authorship metadata required by academic practice.
  • To register and disseminate metadata in persistent identifier and indexing systems.
  • To check the originality of manuscripts.
  • To produce usage statistics and editorial management reports.

Consent

Registering on the platform and submitting a manuscript constitute the data subject's prior, express and informed consent to the processing described here. The corresponding author declares that they have their co-authors' permission to provide their data.

Public disclosure and transfer to third parties

The editorial process involves public disclosure and transfer of data, and data subjects should be aware of this before submitting their work.

  • Open publication. The authors' names, institutional affiliations and ORCID iDs are published with the article and remain permanently accessible.
  • DOI registration. Authorship metadata are transmitted to Crossref as the registration agency.
  • Indexing. Metadata are made available through the OAI-PMH protocol and may be harvested by databases, aggregators and academic search engines.
  • Originality checks. Manuscripts are processed by Copyleaks, which acts as a data processor for that specific purpose.
  • Infrastructure. The journal runs on Open Journal Systems, from the Public Knowledge Project, on technological infrastructure provided by the institution.

Beyond the above, the journal does not share data with third parties or use them for commercial purposes.

Retention

Data are kept for as long as the data subject's relationship with the journal lasts and, afterwards, for as long as needed to meet legal obligations and preserve the integrity of the scholarly record. Metadata that have already been published remain associated with the article indefinitely, a condition inherent to the work being citable.

Rights of the data subject

Under Law 1581 of 2012, data subjects may access, update and correct their data; request proof of the consent given; be informed about how their data have been used; lodge complaints with the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce; withdraw consent or request deletion where no legal or contractual duty prevents it; and access their data free of charge.

Profile data can be edited directly on the platform. For enquiries and complaints, data subjects may contact UNIMETA's General Secretariat by email at secretariageneral@unimeta.edu.co or in person at Carrera 33 n.° 34-06, San Fernando campus, Héroes del Pantano building, office 603, Villavicencio. Enquiries are answered within ten working days and complaints within fifteen working days, extendable under the terms of the institutional policy. For matters related to the editorial process, please write to editorial@unimeta.edu.co.

Scope of deletion

Deletion does not extend to the metadata of articles already published and registered with a DOI, whose permanence is required by the integrity of the scholarly record and by commitments made to registration and indexing agencies. In such cases, corrections are made through the editorial errata procedures.
